Customer Comments at Real Africa Adventures

Hello James

I just thought that I would let you know that we returned from our trip to Uganda last Monday and we had a wonderful memorable time. We worked very hard in a nursery and an orphanage. We are full of admiration for Denis in all that he and Real Africa Adventures are doing and were so impressed with their organisation and enthusiasm and helpfulness.
We were away for 15 days and it all went so smoothly and our two cows that we had bought arrived on time……and the safari at the end was the cream on the cake!

I am sure that another trip will be on the cards at some point.

I wanted to thank you for your valuable help in our early stages of preparation.
When we were there, there was a party from Derbyshire and when we left there was a big group from the States – Denis’s reputation goes before him!

Many thanks again

Hilary

I have been meaning to contact you but just havent had the time due to work
committment. I have tried calling REMI ( our guide) but no success never, mind will keep trying once I am free.

Well, I must say I had one of the best times of my life, first time travelling on my own. I met some lovely people and made lots of friends.
The country is absolutely beautiful, We had no complaints from we stepped off the plane in Uganda, until I arrived back in the UK.

I have been constantly telling people about Uganda, think they are fed up of me now (smile).

I hope the people over there felt the same way about me and ladan as we felt about them and I hope you have had some positive feedback about us.

I am hoping to go back next august with the family will let you know.

My only regret was due to time I was unable to do my sponsor, but will contact you again about that soon.

Finally, I would like the biggest thank you to REMI our guide he is one of the nicest people I know, Real Africa should be proud of him as one of their
employer, I actually believe he made our stay that extra bit special due to his patience and understanding and calm demeanour.

Thanks Lorraine.

It's hard to pinpoint one thing that was most memorable. The whole trip was amazing. It was so exciting to go gorilla trekking, but it was also very memorable volunteering with the children at the orphanage.

2. What tips would you give other travellers booking this holiday?
Don't wait - do it now!

3. Did you feel that your holiday benefited local people, and minimized impacts on the environment?
Yes, absolutely.

4. Any other comments?
I loved everything -- thank you so much.

Finally, how would you rate your holiday overall?

**** Some stories to tell the grandchildren, I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend

Hi Connie!
The trip was wonderful in every way! Hamid was a great guide---we wouldn't have seen half the animals without his good eyes! I'm attaching a photo of Hamid and me. Thank you for everything!

P. S. I love your beautiful country--the people were so nice everywhere we went.

I was 19 and had never been outside Europe let alone travelling to Africa! However from the moment I landed, with my flat mate, we were greeted with a big smile and a handshake that made us feel right at home.

We are both second year midwifery students training in South London. I had felt pretty exhausted with London, one night, and spent that evening planning my escape for a few weeks to practice my midwifery skills. Once I’d persuaded Claire to come with me we were set to go in less than three weeks.

We stayed in the Msafari hostel in central Kampala, run by Real Africa Adventures. It was very spacious and comfortable. We had hot showers, fresh beds and towels with the real atmosphere of being in Africa. We felt very safe at all times. It took a few days to get used to everyone staring and waving at the new Muzungus (white people) but with Dan and Rita guiding us we felt very much at home. Dan was a gap year student staying at the Msafari hostel with us and Rita was the lovely lady who cooked our Ugandan meals and cleaned our rooms!

We only had a week in Uganda due to university starting soon, therefore we only had a few precious days working in the maternity ward. We were placed and worked at Mengo hospital, and although it took a day or so to gain staff trust we experienced so much. We both assisted in a variety of births, ranging from the straightforward to the 7 month IUGR, stillbirths, PPH’s and retained placentas. Not only did we gain a greater understanding of cultural and physical differences of the Ugandan women. We also had the opportunity to find out what medical supplies would be useful in sending back when we returned to the UK. We’re sending cord clamps!

Real Africa adventures not only organised our maternity placements but they also kept us very occupied in our evenings and days off. We discussed with them what we wanted to see, they nodded and organised everything including travel and expenses. We wanted to see the waterfalls and the source of the Nile in Jinja. We visited a nearby orphanage, we explored central Kampala and its markets and on our last evening we experienced a Ugandan ‘Easter experience’ at the Ndere cultural centre.

I cannot fault Real Africa Adventures in any way. They even offered to organise our flights and arrange a taxi pick up when we landed home. The accommodation was very reasonable and so was the cost of everything that was included. We fully recommend Real Africa Adventures to student/qualified nurses or midwives.

Oh and they’ll take your kids too, if you want them there!

November 2006:
Was it only a few weeks ago that we were there?
So our adventure is over and the memories begin!

I am often asked why I take on the responsibility of organising a trip like we have just enjoyed. My answer is that it gives me so much pleasure to see the faces of the individuals as they experience and respond to the sights and sounds, the places and most of all the people that they meet during our stay.
After the event it is a joy to meet up with fellow travellers and share some time and a few memories and to discover how attitudes, feelings and lives have been influenced or changed as a result.

I have been sharing memories for years since my 2002 trip and have already started sharing memories with some of you. I look forward to more with all of you from Sanyu uganda 2006

November 2006:

Thankyou so much Dennis for arranging the brilliant Chulmleigh trip to Uganda, most of all I learned from the african approach to life which i know some others found frustrating but I found refreshing, the reframing of challenges as opportunities - rain not being an unwelcome disruption but a blessing and challenging our obsession with racing through life - "time is elastic in africa", even in the terrible Kampala traffic noone seemed to get up tight or angry and in the airport I commented to the security staff about how calm and friendly they were saying that the London staff were always so stressed and she said "we are stressed too but we can always make time to smile".
All the best

We really did have a fantastic time. Your country was quite beautiful and we were treated very well by all the people we met. Hamid could not have been a better guide, companion and friend. He is fantastic!! You should give him a very big raise! Seriously, he took wonderful care of my family and was a pleasure to be with at all times. I also liked the fact that you utilized Ugandan businesses as much as possible. The International Hotel was really interesting and quite comfortable. Same was true of the Margherita Hotel. We enjoyed Mantana's camp in Mburo and Myewa was incredible and lived up to its wel deserved reputation. We really did appreciate how you and Hilda did try to meet our needs and make the trip as comfortable as possible. Hamid told us many times about how Denis had come from a small village and had built a very successful business while helping fund clinics and schools in rural areas. (We are very sorry we could not make it all the way to your Suubi Clinic). Thank you again for making our trip to Uganda the best family vacation we have ever had. We hope to return there in the future. We wish you the best of luck in the future.

Denis , I just wanted to email you to let you know what a wondeful time I had in Uganda.
The trip was a wonderful experience and has really opened my eyes to a whole new world. I've only been back a day and I'm so desperate to go back already. The people we met were a real testament to their faith and I'm inspired by them! They have a strong, persevering and positive character regardless of their circumstance, that is an example to everyone - if only people here in the 'West' could adopt the same attitude the world would be a better place. Johnson, our tour director, was a credit to your company. He was so warm and friendly and made us all feel very welcome and safe. He looked after us above and beyond the call of duty (one day taking us all to hospital due to ill health!) and i'm incredibly grateful to him. He became one of the group by the end of the holiday so much so a few tears were shed at the airport on departure. Hilda and June equally are such warm and loving individuals and provided for me materially and personally when some of my luggage didn't turn up in Entebbe for a week! My thanks go to them.
Thank you for providing this opportunity for me to experience Uganda, I've definately caught the bug (of a good variety this time!) and am already planning a church mission back to Uganda next year, God allowing.
Many thanks again and take care.
