DAY 1: La Paz – PM City Tour
Arrive at El Alto international airport above the city of La Paz, Bolivia. Transfer to your hotel and free day to rest and acclimatize. Lunch on your own. We have a city tour at 2 PM so that you can get acquainted with the city of La Paz – it’s neighborhoods, open-air markets and colonial and modern architecture. There is a group meeting in the early evening with trip leaders and participants to check plans and prepare for the trip. Dinner on your own. To acclimatize better, we recommend plenty of rest, eating lightly and drinking lots of water and mate de coca (coca tea).

DAY 2: La Paz – Achocalla – La Paz
Today we prepare for an all-day trip to an adjoining canyon southwest of where La Paz is located. The descent is through a high Andean valley known as Achocalla and ends up in the Valley of the Moon. This little valley has creeks, small lakes and is a fertile region where we will see the ancient agricultural methods being implemented by the local campesinos. Lunch stop along the way. We return to our hotel in Mallasa. In the afternoon. Dinner on your own. Overnight in La Paz. Vehicle support. (B,L)

DAYS 3-4: La Paz – Lake Titicaca – La Paz
An early departure towards Lake Titicaca – the world’s highest navigable lake at 12,500’ asl. Our destination is Cohani Peninsula – a seldom visited part of the lake where traditions haven’t changed in centuries. We will ride the circumference of this picturesque peninsula for two days. Rolling hills, steep & sharp turns, gradual ascents, fast descents and Inca ruins are all part of the fun. We will camp on the shores of this peninsula for one night. Return to our hotel in La Paz on the 2nd night. Vehicle support. (B,L)

DAY 5: La Paz – Cumbre – La Paz
Todays’ ride will be our first foray into the Andean highlands. We will head to the Cumbre - the high-point of the pass to the Yungas and Amazon basin - and ride a long downhill into the canyon of La Paz. Many glaciated peaks and summits will be right before our eyes. We’ll ride a seldom-

used jeep road and have a short climb across the crest of some Andean hills that are the foothills of the Cordillera Real and head down into the adjoining canyons of La Paz through Irpavi. Lunch en route. We should arrive in the lowest part of town and the hotel in the afternoon. Dinner on your own. Partial vehicle support. (B,L)

DAY 6: La Paz – Kollana – Rio Abajo – La Paz
This morning we head out early from Chasquipampa, east towards the beginning of a long and slow climb out of the valley of La Paz and to the Cumbre de Animas, the haunting and eroded rocky rim. Here we come face-to-face with Mt. Illimani, the sentinel of La Paz, at over 21,260', and our companion peak for the rest of the trip. The breathtaking climb up Kollana peak is slow and methodical but the views are worth it. After lunch, we hightail it down some of the most impressive views and rugged scenery to be found anywhere in the Andes! This is an awesome downhill! Camp for the evening. Vehicle support. (B,L,D)

DAY 7: La Paz – Cumbre - Coroico
Today is the ride that makes the trip come full circle. We head east across the Andes and into the tropical Yungas region. This absolutely thrilling descent will demonstrate the variety of ecosystems and geographical regions of Bolivia. In one day you will cross high and wind-swept Andean passes at 15,500', head down through high mountain cloud forest around 10,000' and finish in the tropics next to a whitewater river at close to 7,000' see sea level. Hostel in Coroico for the evening. Vehicle support. (B,L,D)

DAY 8: Coroico – Mururata – La Paz
The ride today will begin with a thrilling downhill towards the Coroico River then climb out of the river valley up into the cloud forest and rolling hills across from Coroico. Our destination is the town of Mururata, a little town in the heart of the coffee and coca-growing region of the Yungas. Many descendants of African slaves live in this town and we will try to meet with the direct descendant of an African King. After relaxing and some lunch we will return to La Paz in the early evening. We will arrive in La Paz around 8:30 PM and take you to your hotel. Dinner on your own. Hotel accommodations in La Paz for the evening. Vehicle support. (B,L)

DAY 9: La Paz - Miami
Today is your free day in La Paz to rest, shop or enjoy the city on your own time. We will have shuttle service for anyone catching a flight either in the morning or early evening to Miami and connections back home. Lunch on your own.

Hotel is not included for this evening. (B)
